The good news for all concerned: To jump start a car with a discharged battery, in addition to an assisting vehicle with a working battery, only a jump start cable is required. Important: The diameter of the cable should be at least 16 mm. For cars with large engines, a jump start cable with a cross section of 25 mm is recommended.

The I terminal stands for Ignition. The purpose of it to supply 12 volts to the coil during CRANKING the starter bypassing the ignition switch which has a resistance wire running from the switch to the + terminal of the coil. There should NOT be power at the I terminal when the engine is running.Take a multimeter, change its settings to ohms symbol. Touch one probe to the negative terminal of the battery, and the other probe to any exposed metal part of the engine. The reading should be at or very close to zero ohms. Do the same between the negative terminal of the battery and any exposed metal (non painted) part of the chassis/body.
Connect one end of the black negative (−) cable to the good battery negative (−) terminal. Use a remote negative (−) terminal if the vehicle has one. Do not let the other end touch anything until the next step. Connect the other end of the negative (−) cable to the discharged battery negative (−) grounding point.
Connect the black cable to the negative terminal of donor battery. Finally connect the other end of the black cable to any bare unpainted metal part of the body or engine of your XF. Safety warning: Connecting black cable directly to the negative terminal of XF battery can ignite flammable gases from the battery due to sparks. Start your XF.Quote: Originally Posted by mhoefer. the large black cable to the right with the large bolt/lug looking thing, that connects to the battery direct and the car's ground, just clamp onto that lug. BTW, the recommended way to jump start is NOT to attach the negative to the battery, but to connect it to a good ground point, such as an alternator bracket, or a lug such as this one. Reply.
The most common symptoms of dead battery in Ford Bronco are slow engine crank, no start, dim lights, flickering dashboard lights and clicking noises when trying to start the engine. The most common causes of dead battery in Bronco are internal degradation of the battery due to old age, and bad alternator – but can also be caused by parasitic
Step 4: Attach the other end of the negative cable to the dead car’s negative battery terminal. Aaron Brown. Make sure all four leads have good, solid connections to their jump points. You don
Warning: Do not connect the negative (black) jumper cable to the negative battery terminal of the dead battery. Doing so can create sparks that ignite the hydrogen fumes from the battery. Double-check that the connections are secure. Start the vehicle with the good battery and bring engine speed up to around 1,500 – 2,000 RPMs.
